First draft of College Area Community Plan Update ready for comment by Feb. 14

The first draft of the College Area Community Plan Update is now ready for public comment.

Last updated in 1989, it’s the land use plan for the future growth of College Area for the next 30 years. This includes elements on housing, infrastructure, mobility, parks and public spaces, and more.

The community plan envisions, “a college town with vibrant mixed-use corridors and nodes that connect to neighborhoods and the University and enhance the community.”

College Area residents are encouraged to take part in ongoing discussions to address specific aspects of the plan, including proposed areas for increased housing density and a plea to add a Public Safety Element to focus on emergency preparedness and land-use issues like those related to evacuation planning and firefighting infrastructure.

The future of College Area and even your own neighborhood street is depending on you.

To review the Plan, go to: plancollegearea.org. The City welcomes feedback on the first draft before midnight on Feb. 14.

Comments can be submitted using an online form  at this link or by emailing your comments to: plancollegearea@sandiego.gov. No final recommendations or decisions are made at this stage.

Community member feedback at this stage is valued and will inform the second draft.
