Season 2 debuts soon
HBO’s popular drama The Last of Us, which is based on Naughty Dog’s video game series, returns for its second season on April 13.
The sophomore season adapts some of the events of The Last of Us: Part II, and that means viewers are in for some twists, turns, and shocking scenes.
But who is starring in Season 2 and what roles do they play? In this post, we’re rounding up the cast for Season 2, which includes returning players like Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), along with a variety of newcomers for the sophomore season. The newcomer list is headed up by Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, a central character in Season 2.
Read on to see all of the confirmed cast so far. Season 2 airs Sunday, April 13, and there are seven episodes in all. Seasons 3 and 4 are expected to come later on.

Pedro Pascal as Joel
Pascal comes back to play Joel once again. Anyone who knows the story of The Last of Us: Part II is well aware of what’s to come.

Bella Ramsey as Ellie
Ramsey is once again playing Ellie in The Last of Us Season 2. In Season 2, Ellie and Joel are at odds over what happened at the end of Season 1.

Kaitlyn Dever as Abby
Perhaps the biggest addition to the Season 2 cast is Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. In The Last of Us: Part II the game, Abby is a central character in the story, and became divisive on the internet.

Gabriel Luna as Tommy
Gabriel Luna plays Tommy, who is Joel’s brother and a major character with respect to how the story unfolds.

Isabela Merced as Dina
Isabela Merced joins the cast for Season 2 as Dina. She has a close connection to Ellie.

Catherine O’Hara as Gail
Another newcomer for The Last of Us Season 2 is the veteran actor Catherine O’Hara in the role of Joel’s therapist, Gail. This character was invented for the TV show.

Young Mazino plays Jesse
Season 2 of The Last of Us also sees the introduction of Young Mazino as Jesse. He is Ellie’s friend and a patrol leader.

Rutina Wesley plays Maria
Rutina Wesley comes aboard the Season 2 cast as Maria, who is Tommy’s partner. It appears Maria and Tommy have a child in Season 2–the couple did not have a kid in the game.
