Beautiful PB, a grassroots nonprofit devoted to creating a more sustainable, equitable, and beautiful community, recently announced the launch of the Pacific Beach Arts District. The new Arts District will organize, energize, and promote the arts, cultural, and entertainment life of Pacific Beach. This new initiative weaves art into the everyday surroundings, cultivating a lively cultural identity in Pacific Beach.
This mermaid mural was created by Pacific Beach-based artist Jared Lazar, co-owner and creative director of Team Phun. Lazar also created the sea life mural on the walls of Randall’s Sandals, 1033 Garnet Ave., and the Stay Weird PB electrical box on the corner of Mission and Garnet. PHOTO BY THOMAS MELVILLE
WHAT IS IT?
The PB Arts District serves as the community’s central hub for arts information. Local artists, studios, galleries, and performers are invited to submit art events for inclusion on beautifulpb.com’s event calendar. The calendar will publicize upcoming shows, classes, exhibitions, and more – all in one convenient location.
For example, this week, Beautiful PB and Kristal Barella hosted a Doodle Night at Bar Ella Restaurant, 1030 Garnet Ave. It was an opportunity to unwind, have fun, and connect with others through creativity, where doodling and sketching took center stage.
GET INVOLVED
Are you interested in helping to shape the PB Arts District? On April 19, there will be an Arts District meeting. Join in to volunteer on activating an art space in PB. To join the committee, send an email to arts@beautifulpb.com.
It’s a great time to get involved in doing something good in the world. Beautiful PB is looking for artists, volunteers, educators, restaurants with art gallery space, and anyone passionate about expanding the arts in Pacific Beach to become affiliated. For more information, to volunteer, become an affiliate artist or business, or to add an art event on the arts calendar, email arts@beautifulpb.org.
ART IN PLACE
In 2019, Beautiful PB started Art in Place, a community art initiative integrating art into the Pacific Beach community. Art in Place includes the PB Murals project, sculptures, historical landmarks, and utility box art in Pacific Beach. Visit beautifulpb.com for their art map of all the murals throughout PB.
In March 2023, Beautiful PB received a grant in partnership with the San Diego Audubon Society (now San Diego Bird Alliance) to bring two new murals into the heart of Pacific Beach. This art, by muralists Hannah Daly and Todd Murphy, highlights the habitats and wildlife local to the coastal area. Find these two murals at 4629 Cass St. and 1160 Garnet Ave.

This mural at 4450 Lamont St. on the north side of the PB Water Store was designed and painted by Beth Emmerich, a well-known San Diego tattoo and mural artist. She also painted the tiger mural on the martial arts studio at 1749 Garnet Ave. The new Arts District will organize, energize, and promote the arts, cultural, and entertainment life of Pacific Beach.
